Fan cast: Knights of the Old Republic (2015)

Suppose that, for some reason (perhaps the original trilogy's cast being unwilling and/or unable to return), the notion of making Star Wars sequels for release as of 2015 had become less appealing. Suppose that instead of ditching the whole Expanded Universe, Disney/Lucasfilm had decide to mine it for material that could be adapted into feature films. Suppose that they'd opted to release an adaptation of the commercially and critically acclaimed 2003 game Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR). Who could they have cast? I've discussed the general fan casting preferences  of the fan-base already, and I've also observed that the perennial favourite to play Revan (Keanu Reeves) was already too old for the art by that time. Therefore, we're going with Christian Bale. This allows for Jaimie Alexander as Bastila, Manu Bennett as Canderous, and Elodie Yung as Yuhani. For the rest of the cast, we'll have to broaden our search. No reason to despair: there has been plent...

Some more thoughts on Star Wars fan casting options

My previous post was about my fan casting choices for the Star Wars EU. But what about other peoples' preferences? I'm not talking about fan casting for specific roles; I'm rather wondering which actors are generally viewed as great candidates to appear in a Star Wars film. Thankfully, the fans like to talk about these things. So I've been taking a look at the various fan-casting threads on the big Star Wars forums. Or rather specifically, I've been looking at the threads aimed at " Who would you like to see in Star Wars? " -- and even more specifically than that, I've tallied the answers to this question for the period between the sequel announcement and the release of TRoS. That is to say: I've been taking a look at which actors the (most active and invested segment of the) fan-base actually wanted in the franchise, during that period. Note that this was done mostly for my own amusement, and possibly to aid in any future fan-casting efforts...

Fan-casting the Star Wars expanded universe

Star Wars offers perhaps the broadest and most detailed expanded universe of any sci-fi franchise ever. It spans thousands of years, and is full of characters that never appeared in any of the films. In many cases, we've only read about their exploits in some novel or other. There may be official art, which may or may not correspond to how we picture the characters in our minds. There are, however, no real-life faces of actors attached to these roles (in the way that Mark Hamill, for example, is Luke Skywalker). Yet quite a lot of us have an image in our heads of what (some of) these characters look like. And since there is certainly no shortage of actors on our planet, we can often point at one of those actors and say: " That's how I picture this character!" I certainly have a lot of opinions along those lines, and this is the place where I'll share those opinions. (Of course, no single casting idea is "definitive", and nobody can be "right...
